Trail Days in Elkin is a celebration of time outdoors—but it’s also an opportunity to slow down and make something meaningful by hand.
In this one-day, small-group workshop, you’ll learn how to construct a woven top for your walking stick using traditional weaving techniques and basketry materials. Rather than simply decorating your hiking stick surface, you’ll create a woven structure that becomes part of the stick itself—designed to hold up to use and tell a story over time.
The day begins with an introduction to essential weaving techniques and materials, giving you a foundation to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind walking stick. With guided, hands-on instruction throughout the day, you’ll weave directly onto your walking stick, developing both skill and confidence as you go.
After a relaxed lunch break, the afternoon is spent continuing your work at your own pace, with plenty of individual guidance. This is an intentionally self-paced experience—focused on learning, making, and enjoying the weaving process.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave not only with a beautifully crafted walking stick, but with the knowledge and techniques to continue exploring weaving beyond the class.
No prior weaving experience is required. hand eye and color coordination is helpful for any hands-on weaving project
